One Summer Day Celebration

Words and Music by Laura Larkins

The smells of the earth, mixed with the sky
Bringin’ down all the dust of the year
Was swept away, like the clouds we were gazin’ on
One summer day – One summer day!

Cuz’ we work all day but it’s never enough, (for stuff)
pockets full a holes
So we took out to the river (just to watch it rollin’)
This is one summer day celebration,

One summer day celebration, yeah!

Well, the swallows were swoonin’ and the drums were boomin’
Taken up, taken up by the sun!
And no-one cared to stop their dancin’
On this one summer day celebration!

Three shots rang out! Bam, bam, bang!
We ran to the top of the hill
The jester called it, the actors tumbled down,
One summer day celebration.

Ya gotta cry when ya need to ‘n not when ya don’t, I know,
spoke the exbetrothed,
So we brought her wreaths of lilies and tied up her hair
On this one summer day, one summer day.

Now the children went squawkin’ and the youth went walkin’
Taken up, taken up by the sun!
And no-one cared to stop their dancin’
On this one summer day celebration!

Thought I’d started bulky, takin’ life by the horns,
said the jigger with his partner in tow
Ah, just forget it. I know ya meant it, Hon,
This is one Summer day celebration.

Hey, I paid my debts — an’ missed the play
The bull was in the hay.
Well, blow that music and swing me ‘round again,
One summer day — one summer day!

Well the swallows on the banks were hoppin’ and swoonin’
The drums on the banks were boppin’ and boomin’
The strings on the banks were twangin’ and tunin’
The horns on the banks were blarin and croonin’

One summer day — One summer day

One summer day celebration!
